Angkor Balm® A Traditional Cambodian Remedy

Small in size but rich in tradition, Angkor Balm® is a familiar Cambodian aromatic ointment inspired by a practice shared across generations. Made with carefully selected natural ingredients and essential oils, it continues this tradition through the handmade craftsmanship of Senteurs d’Angkor.

A Tradition Passed Down Through Generations

Across Asia, aromatic balms have long been kept in homes as practical everyday remedies. Their simple and versatile nature has made them a familiar part of daily life, with traditional uses passed down from one generation to the next.

At Senteurs d’Angkor, Angkor Balm® is inspired by this enduring tradition. Our artisans carefully prepare and fill each balm by hand, combining natural ingredients and essential oils with the care and attention that goes into our handmade products.

From Everyday Balm to Traditional Practice

Angkor Balm® can also be found in our Pain Reliever Kit, which brings together the balm and a small copper coin mounted on a wooden handle. The coin is used for kaus kchorl, a traditional scraping technique known in Chinese as gua sha.

Traditionally, kaus kchorl involves applying balm to the skin before using the rounded copper tool with repeated strokes. The practice has been passed down as a traditional way of caring for the body, particularly during moments of tension, fatigue, or discomfort.

The kit offers a glimpse into how a familiar balm can be connected to a wider tradition of everyday care, combining the aromatic balm with a simple tool inspired by traditional practice.

Carefully Made by Cambodian Artisans

The Angkor Balm® formula brings together ingredients such as coconut oil, rice bran oil, beeswax, camphor, cajeput oil, menthol, and selected essential oils. Each ingredient plays a role in creating the balm’s distinctive texture and aromatic character.

From preparing the ingredients to filling and packaging the balm, our Cambodian artisans carry out each step with attention to detail. This hands-on process reflects Senteurs d’Angkor’s approach to creating natural products while keeping traditional craftsmanship at the heart of our work.

A Small and Versatile Companion

Compact and easy to carry, Angkor Balm® can be kept at home or taken along when travelling. It is traditionally applied in a small amount to the desired area and gently massaged into the skin.

For the kaus kchorl practice, the balm is applied before using the copper tool. As with any topical product, Angkor Balm® should not be applied to broken skin, wounds, mucous membranes, or sensitive areas, and care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes.

More Than a Souvenir

For many visitors, Angkor Balm® is more than a small product to take home. It brings together familiar Cambodian scents, traditional knowledge, and the work of local artisans in a form that remains part of everyday life.

The Angkor Balm® Pain Reliever Kit adds another layer to this story, connecting the balm with kaus kchorl and offering visitors a tangible way to discover a traditional practice.

At Senteurs d’Angkor, we believe that even a small handmade product can carry a story. Through Angkor Balm®, we continue to share a part of Cambodia’s everyday traditions, crafted with care by Cambodian artisans.
